Navaratna Restaurant, Poothole, Thrissur

We learned that the restaurant opened in 2010 and became kosher six months later. It so happened that our visit coincided with a visit Navaratna Restaurant from one of the owners, Prakash Nath, so we spoke with him. We also opted for one of the bread side dishes and absolutely devoured it. Fran’s dish featured modest samplings of six dishes, while my dish had modest samplings of five. We easily found street parking nearby and went into the restaurant near the end of the lunch hour. Fran and I both agreed that we had to try this restaurant and stopped there for lunch on our way to Rhode Island.

The menu at Navaratna Veg Restaurant is a testament to the rich tapestry of Indian cuisine. There are lots of traditional dishes to choose from. Needless to say the quality of the food that you will find at Navratna is par excellence. The interior décor as mentioned earlier helps enhance the charm of the experience that you will have here.

Located in Galle Face Center Road Colombo 03, this majestic food heaven is one that serves to an elite clientele. So Sri Lankans have no trouble experimenting with Indian dishes. Because there are plenty of great restaurants serving the mouth-watering goodness of delicacies of the neighbouring land. But I would think of it as an upmarket hole-in-the-wall where I go for the food. Given that our kid loves real Indian food, this was pretty disappointing. Vegan dishes aren't labeled. Otherwise fantastic veg option for the area and reasonably priced. Food was nothing special and nothing marked vegan.

If you can’t get to the restaurant, Navaratna makes deliveries to North Jersey, New York City, and Riverdale, New York. We thoroughly recommend this restaurant and are confident you will find it well worth the trip. He mentioned that the owners have five restaurants, including one in Manhattan, one in Greenwich, one in Westport, and two in Stamford, but only Navaratna is kosher. He told us that the busiest times at the restaurant are weekends and 5 p.m.

The rich curries of Indian cuisine are very close in taste to local curries. The décor at Navratna adds an exotic and artistic touch to the restaurant. ● Voucher amount is inclusive of all taxes and service charges. My favorites are the paneer tikka masala and vegetable korma. I love this place, the food is very good. So I was really pleased with Navratana, not to mention it was all veg!
